Holidays give you a great opportunity to throw some very unique parties. Your holiday party planning can have elements that you probably would not try with other types of parties. All it takes is being willing to take advantage of the holiday theme as an excuse to let your imagination run wild.
While Christmas is the most popular party season, followed by Halloween, there is nothing that is keeping you from throwing a party on any of the other holidays as well.
The key to creative holiday party planning is being willing to take your party in a new direction. Fourth of July parties are typically picnics, there are no rules that keep you from changing it up. For instance, you could throw a “Patriotic” costume party. Every guest will have to dress up in a patriotic costume. This cold be anything from being Uncle Sam to wearing a mask of a former president.
There is nothing to see that it has to be a real holiday. Why no throw a Christmas in June party. June 25th is exactly 6 months away from Christmas, and it is an ideal excuse to throw a party. Break out the traditional Christmas decorations and recipes, and make it an authentic Christmas celebration, minus the cold and snow. You could even do a “White Elephant” gift exchange.
How about throwing a “Great Lovers in History” party of Valentines Day, or even a traditional Irish bash for St Patty’s Day? The point is, you need to take advantage of the opportunity for a party that the holiday provides.
The first thing you are going to have to do is determine where the party is going to be held. If you do not have the room in your home you might want to consider renting a hall for your party. You could find an inexpensive banquet hall, or during the summer you could rent a pavilion at your local park.
Next you can plan you menu. Make sure you keep your theme in mind as you look for the right recipes. Also, consider the food preparation capabilities of the party venue. If there is not kitchen at the party location you will have to prepare and transport any of the food for the party. If that is the case you will probably want to keep things fairly simple.
Next on the list is pulling together the decorations and music for the party. Again, try to use things that will support the theme of your party. If you are throwing a St. Patricks Day party you should find some traditional Irish music. For Valentines Day, find some old popular love songs to play in the background.
Unless this is just a social mixer, you will probably want things available that will entertain your guests. Hire a magician to come and entertain, or have a local comedian come and do a short routine. Many towns have Barber Shop Quartets that will travel to your event to sing. The more unique the entertainment, the more memorable your party will be.
Christmas and Halloween make great reasons to throw a party, but they aren’t the only holidays on the calendar. Do some creative holiday party planning to take advantage of some of the other dates on your calendar. Choose a holiday and then let your imagination run wild.
